Childersburg

Sportsman’s Paradise, just Southeast of Birmingham

Childersburg, Alabama boasts a rich history dating back to 1540. Located a short distance from both Birmingham and Montgomery this small town has a tradition of southern hospitality. Very close to the geographical center of the state just 35 miles southeast of Birmingham and a hunter and fisherman’s paradise.

The Coosa River, which is the third largest stream east of the Mississippi River, joins the city limits and this southern town has 570 miles of shoreline on 2 lakes, a sportsman’s paradise. The Talladega National Forest is a short drive with all kinds of other great hunting spots. All the shoreline around town offers great fishing in the area as well as boating, and other water sport activities.

Whether it is freshwater fish or saltwater fish you are after you can find both here. In August 2004 Gene Louis Hester Fr of Childersburg caught a 7 pound 4 ounce trout in Juniper Spring, he holds the record for the largest rainbow trout caught in Alabama.

The Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries of Conservation and Natural Resources with private sponsorship has created a network of public and private recreational trails for individuals with disabilities so that they can take advantage of the great hunting and fishing in the area.

While touring Childsburg, stay at the enchanting Key West Inn.
